So, you have a new Kindle or e-reader but you don't know how to place your favorite books on it so that your reading process begins...or you're too bumped that the covers don't show up in your library and you feel that your OCD is on its highest peeks because of it.
Fear not, we're here to help.
First things first, Calibre is a free online software, a sort of iTunes for books, you know what I mean? It's an amazing library that allows you not only to manage all your e-books and keep them organized but also to convert them in the format that your e-reader supports.
So, for this tutorial to work out for you, you'll need to download Calibre and install it on your computer.
This is what you'll see when you open the Calibre software, an overview of the books that you already added to your Calibre library.
The main problem when it comes to placing the books on your e-reader is the formats that it supports and also the covers not showing up sometimes. For this to be all beautiful and tidy you'll need to edit the metadata of each book in your library before sending it to your device.
For this example we used the book "In Five Years" (can't wait to read it!!) and when you select this book and open the metadata this is what will show up. Here you can change the author information, genre, series and choose the perfect cover!
Now hit the "get covers" and a pop up page will also show up and you should select the cover that you like the most.
Now that the data from this book is all set up, it's time to convert it and send it to your device.
The majority of the e-books come in .epub or .pdf format, and these are friendly formats for most of the devices like iPads, Kobos, iPhones.
Please be aware that this tutorial is mainly for us Kindle users, as Kindle only supports 2 formats: .mobi or .pdf - but here's the problem, when a book comes in .pdf, even though Kindle reads it, if you edit its metadata, the book cover will still not show up!! *soul screams loud*, that's why the best way for everything to be perfect on Kindles is to convert all the books to .mobi format.
So, now that that's settled, the best way to send your selected books to your device is by hitting the "send to device" and then on the dropdown menu, select "send in specific format to main memory".
Here you should select the format, remember for Kindle, the most friendly of all formats is .mobi!
And that's it! You can now enjoy your books, you just need to eject your device and start reading.
Oh and don't forget: to erase the books that you've already read or if you feel like your device memory is getting short, just connect the e-reader to your computer and on your device section, just select the books you want to delete and do it!
Happy readings everyone!
